Learning Log 6

                                                                    COMSEC2
Last August 16, 2017, we didn't have a class session because of the make up classes. For last August 23, 2017, sir continued his lessons and some groups presented their projects for the finals. We wasn't able to present our project because Sir Justin wanted our project to be presented our project after his discussion.

Last August 30, 2017, we presented our final project. Since Gabby wasn't able to come to class, we presented without him. I'm thankful that our presentation is successful. I became nervous because final exam in COMSEC2 includes all the topics discussed. I hope that I would be able to answer those questions and get 80 percent in the final exam. Thank you sir for teaching and sharing the knowledge that you have. Sir, WEBPSEC! :D

Learning Log 5

                                                                         COMSEC

Last week, we are asked to do an activity about access-list after our lesson. Since the activity is time-consuming, we are not able to send it that day until our this week's meeting because I cannot figure it out what's wrong with the codes that I entered in the router. I asked for Sir Justin's help because I cannot satisfy one of the requirements that the admin network can only send emails while the ops network can only receive email. After I entered the correct codes, some of the codes I entered didn't work so I entered again the codes then Viola! it worked!

Learning Log 4

Last week, all the groups presented their projects for the midterms. We are the last group to present in COMSEC2. Since Sir Justin know the flow of our project, Sir Justin told us to proceed to the results and discussion as well as the conclusion. Since our meeting is included in the SOCIT week, Sir Justin decided to give us a very light activity which is to watch one of the episodes of the Black Mirror after we watched it, we are asked to do a risk assessment, identify the threats, its type, impact levels, and much more.

Since Sir Justin was not around, Doc Manny substituted sir Justin last July 5, 2017. Doc Manny collected our draft. He read and wrote some comments that might help in our midterm project. Last July 12, 2017, Sir Justin gave the first half for consultation of the project then after that he let the two groups present their answers related to the legal investigation and digital forensics wherein we answered real case files.

Learning Log 2

For the two meetings, sir recalled some of the terms discussed from our previous subjects such as COMSEC and INFOSEC wherein sir tackled about cybercrime, due care, and due diligence. Also, sir differentiated some terms like tradesecret, copyright, trademark, patent and as well as the enticement and entrapment. I remembered that every time I watch TV patrol the reporter or the police who is being interviewed would say "entrapment operations" but Sir Justin told us it is not entrapment, it is enticement.

Before we ended our class for this week, Sir Justin asked us to do the activity. Since we belong to odd groups, we answered the Evident Case 1 which is a true-to-life case between Dra. Belo and Atty. Guevarra wherein Atty. Guevarra expressed his opinions on his Facebook account to tell the people about what really Dra. Belo is. From that scenario, Dra. Belo filed a case against Atty. Guevarra about this matter.

In the end, Dra. Belo won the case because Atty. Guevarra violated some certain rules.

Learning Log 1

We are glad that Sir Justin is our professor again. I thought I won't be able to enroll in Computer Security 2 since the slots for Comsec2 is limited to 32 students if i remember it right. But two days before the enrollment, Comsec2 appeared in my registration form that is why I felt happy that time because I don't need to worry about which elective subject will I enroll for this term.

Since our class is every wednesday for 4 hours, Sir Justin used the remaining time to discuss our very first lesson which is all about risk assessment. After the discussion, Sir gave us a group activity about the lesson wherein we identified top 3 threats, calculate the risks in every threat, etc.

For our second meeting, two groups presented their work and after that, Sir Justin told the group leaders to pick what research topic we will be doing for our project. For the remaining hours, Sir discussed a new lesson which is Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning. After the discussion, Sir gave us a group activity about the lesson that he discussed to us. Since the activity is not easy, Sir gave us more time to be able to finish it.

Since our class schedule was included in the PAASCU visit, we are advised to come to class early not just in this subject but also in other subjects. Since there is no accreditor in our time, Sir Justin discussed the exercise that we do last meeting. There are groups presenting their case studies. Some groups are allowed not to come to class if they are done with their presentation. Finally my group is done with the presentation.

Learning Log 2

COMSEC
Sir Justin discussed about what we are going to submit on friday. He discussed what will be the content of our Research outline. He also showed us some of his students' research papers. Sir called the leader of every group to get a tiny paper which has a number written on it that represents a topic that we will be researching. He gave us three minutes to bargain with the other groups if they wanted to exchange topics. Then he gave us an exercise or activity to be discussed by groups 1 and 2 next meeting. The next meeting Sir Justin was out but we are required to submit our research outline. For the next meeting he left us an activity about wireshark. Even if we don't have any knowledge about wireshark, we are able to answer it using different sources. For the last meeting, I tried to review the videos from the cybrary. Since I won't be able to access some of the videos, I took the practice test instead.  After several attempts in the practice test, I decided to take the exam. Luckily, I passed the test.

INFOSEC
Sir Justin discussed again what are we going to submit on friday for the benefit of others. He again discussed what will be the content and then he called the leader of every group to be able to know the topic that we will be researching. After that, he continued the discussion from the last meeting. Hazel and I are somewhat felt relived because Sir Justin discussed us what is Social Engineering which is the topic that we got from the COMSEC class. He also discussed the types of it.The next meeting Sir Justin was out but we are required to submit our research outline. For the next meeting, our sub-teacher is Ms. Vangie, she told us the instruction given by Sir Justin. Learning Log 1

COMSEC
Here comes the first encounter with our new prof. We don't have any idea who's our prof in this subject. Some of my classmates mentioned some possible profs that will handle the COMSEC subject. Suddenly, Sir Justin came. Most of the class seemed to be happy. Sir explained to us everything from the requirements, grading system, projects, etc. He also told us that we are not having quizzes which made us very happy. For the second meeting since he was out, he left us an activity which is by group. We are asked to pick from issues 1 and 2. For issue 1, it tackles if Yahoo! was liable for the hacks or not. For Issue 2, it tackles if the Apple or FBI is correct. Our group decided to pick the Issue 1 and provided 3 arguments for us to defend our stand. Then in the third meeting, Sir discussed concepts related to ethical hacking. We differentiated hub from a switch, worm from a virus and most especially the steps of hacking such as Reconnaissance, Scanning, Gain Access, Maintain Access, and lastly Covering Track. And finally for our fourth meeting, Sir had a recap concepts that we encountered in our DATACOM subject. He pinpoint about the topologies. He describe the connection that exist in every topology. The difference of IP and MAC Addresses. Also the importance of backing up files.

INFOSEC
We are glad to know that Sir Justin is the one who will handle the INFOSEC class in our section. Sir Justin told us that what we will learn from the two subjects, we can apply it to the both subjects. For the second meeting since he was our prof in this subject, he gave us a group activity to be submitted. For the third meeting, first we defined what is the difference between Information Security and IT Security. IT Security is part of the Information Security. We also learned about the CIA which means Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability and sample situations that fall under the CIA. Also, we learned about the use of firewall. Before the class session ends, we are asked to do a simple case study that will be given in either odd or even number groups. And finally for our fourth meeting, he told us the importance of changing our passwords. Because if we used same passwords in every account that we have, it can be easily hacked by someone. Having a long password takes a lot of time for the hackers to know, so if we are about to change our password we make sure that it is not easy to guess.

>>Even if some concepts are new to me, I jot those concepts in my NB so if ever I scan my NB, I will remember those concepts. :)
